OUR MISSION AND THE SPIRITUALITY OF THE SCHOOL

Our school is maintained by Congregatio Jesu religious order, formerly known in Hungary as „the English Ladies”. The religious order was founded by the English-born Mary Ward(1585-1645). Our predecessors took the lead in education in Hungary in all historical ages. Numerous trainings were started in our Institute in Budapest as well, some of which were brand new in Hungary. We are very proud of the history of our Congregation and our schools, which are characterised by thinking ahead of the spirit of the age and commitment to development.

Our pedagogy is built on three pillars in accordance with the spirituality of St Ignatius and the charisma of Mary Ward: KNOWLEDGE- SPIRITUALITY- SERVICE

HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

In our Institution in Váci Street we have been educating students since 1787. The building was enlarged in 1893. The religious order was dissolved and declared illegal, and the school was secularized.

After the change of regime our elementary school was re-founded in 1997 and the grammar school was started later in 2001.

Our school building is being renovated year by year. Based on official plans modernization and development of the building are in progress. At the moment the building is being reconstructed in several steps to meet the requirements of the 21st century.

Our school is situated in the City, next to Váci Street, near Ferenciek Square, with good public transport connections.

SECONDARY SCHOOL FOR MUSICAL ARTS

• starting in September 2015

• Religious Music (Precentor-Song-master / Precentor-Choir-master / Precentor-Organist direction)

• Folk Music (Folk singer / Folk musician direction)

• Classical music (Voice-culture / Instrumental musician / Singer direction – Early music specialisation)

• We are totally certain that our new training will be raising interest not only in Budapest, but also on county and even country level, therefore we are welcoming applicants from all over Hungary. These three musical directions in one school mean a considerable surplus as ages and styles, sacred and lay, individual and communal experiences and active and receptive roles exercise mutual influence.

• Our starting trainings aim to nurture universal, European, and national traditions as well as to protect our cultural heritage. They are especially significant because there is a lack of education of musical arts on secondary level maintained by the Catholic Church even in Budapest. As a religious order we find it most important to contribute to the high level of liturgical church music in Hungary. In our classical musician specialities we put an emphasis on teaching historian rendering, presenting and using period performing practices. Such training is not available on secondary level in Hungary at the moment, so our initiative is of a pioneering character. Our folk music trainings aim at forming more and more popular folk traditions into a living tradition.
